The light jet market has seen plenty of activty in recent years with the introduction of the PC-24 “Super Versatile Jet” so named for its ability to take off and land on unimproved runways and rear cargo door. The Phenom 300E received numerous upgrades, the Citation CJ3 received a “+” and most recently the Bombardier LearJet got a face lift referred to as the “Liberty” edition.
Given the PC-24 is the air.one – 2018 Light Jet of the Year and there has been little notable innovation elseware since, we have a clear favourite in this comparison. The Pilatus PC-24 has the lowest list price, lowest direct operating cost and the longest range of the three aircraft compared, so even if we were able to ignore its super versatility the PC-24 should be a leading consideration for any light Jet buyer. If you have a multi-mission focus then the arguement gets even stronger, with the year cargo door it is the ideal EMS (Air Ambulance) platform, accessing remote locations fast on unimproved runways, with the ability to load up to 3 stretchers.
The LearJet 75 is the fastest in the class, has one of the few flat floors in the class and comes standard with features such as Thrust Reversers. The new LearJet 75 Liberty cabin is referred to as the “Executive Suite” a cabin experience defined by the forward-facing first row of club seats with class-leading leg room (35 inches) and stowable ottoman, the fixed forward pocket door and rear lavatory door.
The Phenom 300E is one of the best selling jets of all time, contributed by the relatively modest list price combined with the innovative and sleek cabin experience. As the Lear 75 and the PC-24 are not yet certified for single pilot operations, the Phenom 300E remains the longest range and fastest single-pilot jet, making it highly apealing to owner operators and corporate flight departments.
